Tesco supermarket in Great Dunmow is taking part in a nationwide scheme to recycle Christmas cards and raise money for planting trees across the UK. The Woodland Trust and Christmas Card Recycling Scheme is aiming to get people to take their Christmas cards to the specially designed recycling bin at Tesco stores throughout January. Recycling bins are also at most WH Smith and TK Maxx stores throughout the UK. At the end of the month, the cards will be taken to paper mills and recycled into new paper products. Money raised through the scheme will help to create new woodland. Last year Essex recycled 42 tonnes of Christmas cards, helping to raise enough money for the Woodland Trust to plant 20,000 trees throughout the UK. Sue Holden, chief executive of the Woodland Trust, said: "Essex deserves a huge thank you for collecting so many cards last year and we're hoping the region will really get behind the scheme again this January.
