EX-Town crier and honorary citizen of Great Dunmow, Ted Wilson has died, aged 90.

Many people around the Dunmow area will know Mr Wilson as a real character and someone who was full of fun. Most of all his son, Christopher Wilson, who spoke about what a great man his father was.

He said: "He did so much for Dunmow and Dunmow did so much for him, he only lived in the town for a brief spell when he first moved to the area, but it was always his home town at heart."

Mr Wilson resided in High Roding and Topplesfield for most of his life in Essex but remained town crier for Dunmow for 40 years before retiring at the age of 84. Christopher said: "He really did fly the flag for the town crying, especially throughout the 50's and 60's."

He moved to care home in Great Easton 21 months ago before falling ill, and after numerous trips to Broomfield hospital he sadly passed away on Friday (April 18).

Christopher said: "He will be very sadly missed by a lot of people, he was just a month away from the grand old age of 91."

The family will be issuing a full tribute over the next week and will be arranging a fitting funeral for a real town stalwart. We will release details of any arrangements on our website at www.dunmow-broadcast.co.uk
