Humongous insects have taken over a village school ... but no-one needs to worry because they are hand-made sculptures!
Year 3 and 4 pupils from Felsted Primary School used bamboo to make large butterflies and dragonflies – with the help of artists Kat Hall and Chris Hall – to put in the school pond and garden area. The activity was part of a larger project to create a natural art trail.
Art and design co-ordinator and Year 5 teacher Graham Silvester said: “It all started when we looked at the work of environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy.
“We were so inspired by the way his installations complemented and enhanced the environments in which they were placed, that we decided to try something similar.”
Year 5 and 6 have also been getting involved and created constructions from natural and recyclable materials. Years 1 and 2 have been creating clay heads on sticks in the raised bed garden, on the school field. Even Foundation children have been joining in with “yarn bombing”.
