EXPERIENCE of trekking through the poles was brought to the classroom for pupils at Felsted Preparatory School.

Intrepid explorer Michael McGrath, the only disabled person to have conquered both the South and North poles, gave an inspirational talk to the pupils from years three to eight.

He told pupils about his condition, muscular dystrophy, which he has had since the age of 17, and how this has not stopped him in achieving his dreams.

He also talked about his experience of the South and North poles and engaged the pupils completely during the whole session.

Mr McGrath also told the children about his work with the charity Muscle Dreams Programmes, which delivers unforgettable experiences for children and young people with muscular dystrophy in the UK.

Pupils at the school recently took part in a quiz called the Muscle Challenge and the winners from each group received a personally signed and framed photograph of Mr McGrath at the North Pole, together with other items including a t-shirt.

His final words to the pupils and teachers were to never stop smiling.
