FAMILY stories were the theme of the day when a primary school celebrated one of Britain’s most famous authors.

St Mary’s Primary School invited grandparents in for a special day of storytelling to celebrate Roald Dahl’s birth day.

Organised by librarian Cathy Thompson, St Mary’s encouraged grandparents to tell the children stories from their ancestors so the pupils could learn about their history and be proud of their heritage.

Mrs Thompson was thrilled to see nearly 60 grannies and granddads come to the school to take part in the day.

“We didn’t expect so many but it was great to see them here because grandparents play such an important role in the development of the children.”
