TWO pubs in the Saffron Walden area have been nominated for awards that recognise exceptional standards in licensed retailing.

The Coach and Horses in Newport and the Cricketer's Arms in Rickling Green have beaten off competition from 100 other local pubs owned by Punch Taverns to be in with a chance of winning a Shine award.

The regional final will be held on January 23, before the national final in May, where one of 10,000 Punch pubs will be awarded the accolade.

Punch Taverns head of communications and event organiser, Nicola Highton, said: "These individuals have done fantastically well to be shortlisted and we wish them every success in next week's final.
