DUNMOW'S Foakes Hall was filled with fragrance, flowers and fruit and vegetables for the annual Horticultural Summer Show.

Despite their soft fruit category entries being down this year, the event was very well supported with all other sections seeing a positive increase in their entries, with 44 members and six children entering 356 classes.

New entrant, Steve Schorah, gave the regular green-fingers a run for their money this year in his first year of competing with vegetable classes.

The Best Exhibit award went to Louis Sallows from Felsted for his symmetrical Hosta and Pam and Chris Payne shared the G. Perry Shield after tying on points in the Photography Section.

Splendid World Cup footballs entered by sisters Glynis Smith and Deborah Farthing were closely matched in the flower arranging and both came away with one award each.
