Police are appealing for witnesses after an 86-year-old man died following a road traffic collision on the M11 this week.

Officers were contacted shortly after 3.45pm on October 2 with reports that a blue Toyota Corolla had left the northbound carriageway between junctions eight and nine, near Newport, and was in collision with a tree.

The driver, a man from Dereham, in Norfolk, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, but died a short time later.

The road was shut for a number of hours while investigation work was carried out and an air ambulance landed.

Police are now keen to speak to anyone who was driving on either the northbound or southbound carriageway at the time of the collision.

They would also like to see any dash cam footage which may help with their enquiries.

Witnesses are asked to contact Det con James Lee at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01245 240590 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
