A NEW pub landlord is working together with local residents and customers to raise cash for Cancer Research.

Mark Brooks took over the Kicking Dickey barely weeks ago, after selling his last pub, The Cock Inn in Beazley End to celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, but is already getting into the idea of community spirit by hosting a charity night on April 25.

Charity organiser Kamille Fitzpatrick commended Mr Brooks for his hospitality saying she hopes he can bring a charitable and fund-raising spirit back to the pub. She said: "The event started off with me entering the race for life for Cancer Research. Pub customers clubbed together and have sponsored me nearly £400. It would be superb if we could raise even more with a big bash."

The charity night, which starts at 8pm, will have two DJ's playing all the disco classics and a special guest appearance from "Kim" an ex-pupil of the Helena Romanes School who will be singing during the night.

Businesses have also donated prizes for a raffle with all the proceeds going to the worthy cause. Mrs Fitzpatrick said: "What is heart warming is how many strangers have so far said they want to help, as cancer can affect everybody through friends or family."

The Kicking Dickey is located on Ongar Road in Great Dunmow, no tickets are required for the event, just donations on the door.
