YOUNGSTERS at Stebbing Primary School celebrated the opening of their new reception classroom on Monday.

Prospective parents were invited to the school to celebrate the handover of the new classroom that will be used for four to five year olds as they first enter the school environment.

Essex County Council paid for the classroom, which cost £100,000.

Janet Matthews, headteacher at the school, said: "We invited parents to the school to see our Montessori classroom and see the children hard at work, and we decided to couple the event with a Diwali party, following on from their studies.

"We were thrilled by the response to our open morning and the many positive comments made by people as they walked around our lovely village school".

The Diwali party saw children dressing in saris and making a curry for the visiting parents who went to the school to see the finished classroom.
