THE death of a man who was hit by a train destined for Stansted Airport is not being treated as suspicious.
British Transport Police reported that the incident, which involved an as yet unnamed man being hit on the tracks, will be reported to the coroner.
The man was hit this morning (Monday January 11) at around 5.30am near the Long Road railway bridge on the line that runs between Cambridge and Stansted Airport
According to sources the train driver saw the man on the tracks and braked but was unable to stop in time.
As a result, commuters faced disruption throughout the morning and replacement buses were put in place between Cambridge and Royston by First Capital Connect for rush hour commuters using the London King's Cross line.
The line was cleared shortly before 6.40am and trains were running normally by 8.50pm.
