Staff and residents from Uttlesford District Council’s sheltered accommodation schemes raised nearly £1,000 by holding Macmillan Coffee Mornings in Thaxted, Hatfield Heath and Takeley.

At Vicarage Mead in Thaxted, businesses including Farmhouse Inn, H Lowe & Co, Wayletts and Gifted donated vouchers for a raffle, helping the cake-selling total to £508.15.

There was a good turnout at Priors Wood Court in Hatfield Heath, with residents holding games to boost the total to £130.85.

At The Close in Takeley, £336 was raised.

Fergus Simmonds Uttlesford District Council’s sheltered housing team leader, said: “There was a lot of hard work and effort that went in to holding the coffee mornings, and we are delighted that so much money was raised for a very worthy cause.”
