The Lordships of the Manors of Great Bardfield and Bardfield Saling will be going under the hammer by Property Consultants Strutt & Parker on Thursday May 24.
The Manor of Great Bardfield was passed from Richard Fitz-Gislebert to the Crown via Fitz-Gislebert's great-grandaughter, who married Lionel, Duke of Clarence (son of Edward III). Subsequently Henry VIII granted it to his fourth queen, Anne of Cleves.
Included in the sale is a collection of historic documents related to the title and that of Bardfield Saling, dating back to 1705. The title has a guide price of £8500.
Estimated to go for £7000, the buyer will have the right to inspect and copy historic documents held by the Lord of the Manor of Great Bardfield.
The auction is being held at Ironmongers' Hall, Barbican, London on May 24. A £20 catalogue can be bought before the auction from Strutt & Parker, Coval Hall, Chelmsford, or by calling 01245 258201.
