A kennel which rescues badly-treated dogs and returns them to good health (like the dog pictured here) is to benefit from a fundraising a May Day fayre and coffee morning at Leaden Roding Village Hall on the bank holiday, Monday, May 1.
The event will include a plant sale, cakes, raffle, tombola, face painting, a new nearly new stall and games.
The morning is being organised by Keeley Robinson from Leaden Roding to support the Mutts in Distress Pound Dog Rescue in Little Hallingbury.
The rescue centre is run by Pat Clark who owns Normandale Kennels and Cattery which trained seven of the dogs who appeared in the film 101 Dalmatians.
Mutts in Distress Pound Dog Rescue was set up by Pat 30 years ago to stop dogs being put to sleep in local pounds. The organiser of the fundraiser, Keeley Robinson said: “In England, if you lose your dog and it ends up in a pound somewhere, you only have seven days to find and claim it or they are put to sleep unless someone will take them hence the Mutts in Distress logo: “Seven days to live, who cares - Mutts in Distress”.
She added: “Mutts in Distress is run by a team of volunteers who work tirelessly to try to find the rightful owners of all the dogs they take in and if they cannot then they offer them up for rehoming to suitable homes.
“They do not turn away a sick or injured dog and get veterinary help regardless of the costs. An example is a little Jack Russell who was blind and had been passed around various rescue centres. The dog arrived at Mutts and Pat consulted the vet who said the dog’s sight could be restored so the money was raised and the little dog was treated.
“They have now helped 15 dogs in similar situations. To date, they have have saved and rehomed around 6,000 dogs in 30 years, most of which would otherwise have been destroyed and just last year they were nominated for Petplan’s Charity of the Year.”
