TAIWAN born student Kevin Chen overcame language difficulties and culture changes to succeed in his GCSE results.

Originally from Taiwan, Kevin came to the UK to follow in his sisters footsteps by coming over to England to study. Kevin started at Felsted School three years ago with intentions of maximising his potential and to benefit from a good education system. Initially he struggled to come to terms with the English language, which was reflected in his school work and school life.

But during his GCSEs Kevin turned things around and focused hard on his studies.

Dedication and hard work helped him prevail, with peers and mentors supporting him along the way. With added pressure from his family back home, Kevin kept in touch once a week but left himself emotionally detached during his revision sessions.

Kevin achieved five A*s, and a B in English. Biology, Chemistry and Double Maths are the subjects Kevin hopes to study next year at A level.

Kevin said: "It has been difficult to grasp the basics of English but my friends have helped me overcome this and I am just pleased and relieved that it's now all over.
