As we move into 2022, I would like to wish you all joy, peace and prosperity for the new year.

2021 has once again shown us how resilient our communities are as we begun rebuilding to recover from the pandemic.

However, there have and are going to be bumps in the road and tough decisions lie ahead as the Government continues to respond to new variants of the virus.

Despite these uncertainties, we have been able to achieve so much, particularly for our constituency.

I have proudly supported key landmark reforms such as the Government’s Online Safety Bill to help improve internet safety, the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill to give Essex Police and our local teams better resources, our Armed Forces Bill for our ex-service personnel and those at Carver Barracks in Debden, the Health and Care Bill to help improve care for all in our communities and the Skills and Post-16 Education Bill so more young people across the constituency can gain the skills they need to secure great jobs.

It has also been a privilege to continue see, celebrate and take part in all that our communities have to offer.

This includes community assets like Fairycroft House in Saffron Walden where Tim Atkinson and his colleagues provide excellent opportunities for young people in and around the town, charities like Home-Start Essex, who support families and young children who I got the chance to speak. Also visiting local businesses, our impressive vaccination centres/GPs, speaking with volunteer groups, schools, fire stations amongst many others.

Thanks to the hard work of our NHS and everyone involved in our local vaccination efforts over 90,000 residents are now double jabbed.

We have all adapted to the difficulties this crisis has thrown at us and I know some of us might be feeling somewhat deflated and frustrated after the introduction of further measures in December and media headlines towards the end of the year.

However, I am confident we will all do what is right to keep our loved ones safe and I remain optimistic for what is to come this year.
