LONG-standing Felsted doctor Andrew Hynd has retired after 28-years of service at the Angel Lane, surgery in Dunmow.

Dr Hynd began his career at the surgery in 1978 having completed his initial training and he stayed there for his entire career.

To celebrate the occasion past and present staff, members of the Primary Care Trust and doctors from John Tasker House surgery - who used to cover the out of hours surgery jointly with Angel Lane - all turned out for the retirement party at the Dunmow Day Centre.

Practice manger Glynis Bradley said: "Dr Hynd was a wonderful GP and also real gentleman. He will be sorely missed by all the staff and patients who thought so too."

Also a keen athlete who enjoys running with his wife, Honor, Dr Hynd received sports vouchers and a year's subscription to the Cambridge Arts Theatre. He also received a watch and plants.

Dr Hynd will now be able to spend more time gardening with his wife, and with their two children Fergus, 27, who lives in London and Polly, 21, who is studying at The University of Durham.

Dr Nigel Tam who has been a locum GP at the surgery since April will take over from Dr Hynd.
