MEMBERS of Dunmow’s Inner Wheel Club gathered for an emotional farewell meeting last week.

The organisation, which was formed over 60 years ago by ladies with family connections to the town’s Rotary Club, has had to disband after it became difficult to attract new members over the last few years.

However, it is not all doom and gloom. The members have decided to create a new group known as the Dunmow Outer Wheel Club.

The aim of the venture is to ensure members do not to lose their friendship with each other and allow them to enjoy meals and trips out without all the administration. The group will also continue to help the Rotary Club with its fund-raising efforts.

A party was held at the home of the Inner Wheel Club’s president, Pam Fox, to celebrate the end of the year and the final ever meeting.

Cheques were presented to Uttlesford Community Travel, The Dunmow Disabled Club and Dunmow Blind and Housebound Club - charities chosen by Mrs Fox at the beginning of her year as president.

Mrs Fox said the party was a great success and that members were now looking forward to their new beginnings with Dunmow Outer Wheel. She also thanked the people of Dunmow for their support over the years.
