On Friday April 27, the Inner Wheel staged an entertaining quiz at the Rowena Davey Centre. Michael Smith, husband of president Brenda, put together this quiz and performed his accustomed duties as question-master as part of his contribution to his wife's year of office. Brenda opened proceedings with words of welcome to all those who made up the 10 tables taking part, with a special thank you to the members belonging to Uttlesford ResCu and Dunmow Disabled Club, her two projects for the year. She went on to say that as a special privilege she was able to make up the rules on this occasion and the only specification was "no cheating"! The winners of the quiz were "Pam's People", with the ResCu team coming second. The quiz raised more than £500 for Brenda's charities. On Wednesday May 2 it was time for the Inner Wheel Club to hold another Supper Meeting at the Saracen's Head Hotel. More than 30 members with their guests enjoyed a delicious meal. They were especially pleased to welcome Betty Roberts, District Chairman, among their guests. Secretary Pam Fox invited visitors to join them on a coach trip to Finchcocks Musical Museum in Kent, housing more than 100 keyboard instruments. This trip is open to all and Olga Burrell on 01371 872062 will be happy to give anyone interested full details.
Then it was time for President Brenda Smith to introduce the speaker for the evening, as Brenda put it "a close friend of the Club" Linda Scholes.
Linda's title for her talk was "Help, I need a lifestyle Advisor". Her lovely sense of humour shone through every sentence as she told of battles with herself over New Year Resolutions, and the extremely comical situations she had to deal with during resolutions of "be prepared", "accept beauty limitations", "think before I act" giving members an evening of laughter. District Chairman Betty Roberts thanked members for their cheque for her major project for the year, The National Endometriosis Society. She went on to tell members about Endometriosis, mentioning that both her daughter and grand-daughter suffered from it. Before closing the meeting Brenda thanked all the members for their help on the quiz night and Olive Blower gave a vote of thanks to Brenda and Michael for all their hard work leading to the night.
