Students from China visited Helena Romanes School in Dunmow.
On Valentine’s Day, the English school welcomed teachers and students from the Yantai Foreign Language Pilot School in China.
The Chinese students took part in lessons including maths, citizenship and English. The group is spending three weeks in England visiting Oxford and Cambridge universities and Scotland.
Helena Romanes students learnt that the Yantai School day starts at 7.40am with a compulsory 20 minute run and ends at 9.40pm with independent study sessions.
Students are not allowed to continue at secondary school if they fail the end of year exams and no resits are allowed. Students who want to achieve the best results, also attend school on Saturdays. The visit was organised by Saffron Homestays and Valerie Newell, head of Spanish at Helena Romanes, who said: “Our Chinese guests praised the positive welcome they received.”
Helena Romanes is planning a return trip to China and lessons in Chinese.
