GREAT Dunmow has its very own poker star following one resident's success in a nationwide tournament.
Tim Brown, a member of the Dunmow working men's club, scooped 2000 at a recent tournament final held in Luton.
The High Street shop manager beat off stiff competition from 800 people in total and won through the tense final consisting of 88 sharp card sharks.
"It was hard work to win and I always thought I could but you don't really expect to," said Tim. "What surprises me about these events is that people of all ages come along, from 18 to 70 and they get on really well, it is really good to see."
Although his success was pleasing, Tim revealed that his children were less impressed. "The other day one of them said to me you may have won the poker dad, but you're still a loser. I thought well that's nice! They only meant it in fun though," he said.
Tim, who has never played poker online, said that he had no plans for the cash windfall as yet but he did expect to be buying a few extra drinks at the bar on a Saturday night.
