FOR the first time in living memory, a Christmas tree has appeared on Great Easton village green.

Residents turned out to watch the fully-lit Christmas tree be positioned on Monday. Four-year-old Ebby Thompson, her two-year-old sister Amber, and William Farrugia, aged eight, led the official ‘switch on’ ceremony. They were joined by community members that had given their time and effort to the project.

Resident Paul Kelly said: “Everyone is excited about having a Christmas tree for the village. Many residents, young and old, have been a part of putting this all together.

“The parish council has financed it and intend to do so each year.”

An evening carol service arranged by David and Karen Scott from The Swan will take place around the tree on Friday December 21, followed by mulled wine and mince pies.
