SATURDAY was carnival time in Felsted. The first street party of the year in the Broadcast area brought colour and life to the streets of the village as the procession made its way up Braintree Road.

Early reports suggest that over £1000 was raised for the various charities which the carnival supports every year.

The parade, led by the Felsted cub scout group, had schools, groups and organisations all dressed to impress 90-year-old carnival queen Gladys Beazley.

After the feast of colour came the feast for real. Once inside the grounds of Felsted Preparatory school, carnival guests were treated to pancakes, strawberries, homemade cakes, hot dogs, and lots of other goodies before making their way to a large selection of stalls including bric-a-brac, arts and crafts, competitions, raffles and games.

Organiser and headteacher Jenny Burrett said a big thank you everyone who had made the carnival such a rousing success, "Everybody had an amazing time and we cannot wait to do it again next year," she said.
