ESSEX'S most photographed village burst into life on Monday as Finchingfield made the most of some gorgeous bank holiday weather.

Hosted by the Red Lion pub the Finchingfield Fun Day was a raging success, raising lots of cash for the village primary school. Headteacher Paula Hagan even got into the spirit by taking her turn in the stocks to be pelted gleefully by children with wet sponges.

Chairman of the school Parent and Teachers Association Jeremy Torybee said that some of the many stalls had run out of items within two hours of opening. He said: "The weather was gorgeous and people flocked to village from all over."

Although the total amount raised was yet to counted, Mr Torybee thanked the staff at the Red Lion for providing a barbecue, beer garden, cream teas and some very much needed parking space. He said: "Everybody had a great time, children ate ice-creams and adults got to relax, it was a perfect bank holiday.
