UTTLESFORD District Council, working in partnership with Leisure Connection Ltd, has given its full support to the government's two year initiative for providing free swimming across the district.
From April 1 free swimming will be available to the over 60's and the under 16s during public swimming sessions.
In order to avoid the queues swimmers are advised to register before the launch date at the Great Dunmow Leisure Centre in Great Dunmow.
Business Manager for Leisure Connection Ltd, Lyn Fisher, said: "Swimming can be the perfect addition to a healthy lifestyle.
"We believe that participation in the free swimming scheme will allow more people to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle.
"This initiative will encourage residents across the district to visit their local leisure centre and enjoy swimming and exercise as part of their everyday lifestyle.
