Former Dunmow student volunteers in life-changing Africa project
A former Helena Romanes student has just returned from a three-month volunteering project working with nomadic communities in Nigeria.
Twenty-year-old Becca Agar, from Felsted, lived and worked in Oke-Ero, in the Kwara State, teaching literacy to adults and children as part of a VSO ICS youth volunteering development project.
Becca, who begins her final year at Durham University this month studying English literature, said the experience was one not be to forgotten.
She said: “It was challenging, and very different to life in the UK, but we were very well received by people in the communities, who really welcomed us into their homes.
“It was a great opportunity and something I will never forget.”
Becca said the experience has inspired her to want to help people through charity work, and is now considering a career in international development.
