DUNMOW will be going bacon crazy this Saturday as the 2008 Flitch Trials return and five couples will be in court to prove their love for each other.

Rumours are rife throughout the town about who will be contesting, and it is widely anticipated that an American couple will be taking the stand this year.

Whatever happens, the town crier, Richard Harris will be on hand to lead any successful claimants through the town on the special chair. "Hopefully the weather will be fine," he said. "If not, I will still have a bell in one hand and my umbrella in the other."

Tickets have sold out for all three court sessions, and the marquee will be packed with anticipation as local celebrities, such as Dave Monk (BBC radio Essex), interrogate the couples in search of the truth.

Chairman of the organising committee, Helen Wildman, said: "Everything is in place and we are all set for the best flitch trials ever, everyone should come along, as there will be a fantastic amount to see and do."

The trials and town fete will be held on Talberds Leys, stretching from behind the tennis courts at Foakes Hall to the other side of the Doctors pond and will run from 10am until 10pm.
