Firefighters were called to a blaze at a derelict house in Matching Green in the early hours today (August 5), which took them more than two hours to extinguish.

Nine fire crews from the county attended the incident, including one from Stansted, two from Harlow and two from Old Harlow, at 1.18am.

The 30 metre by 10m building, in Downhall Road, was fully alight when crews arrived and three main jets and one hose reel jet were used to extinguish the flames by 3.27am.

The East of England Ambulance Service also attended and treated a 35-year-old man at the scene for heat exhaustion. He did not require further treatment and was not taken to hospital.
