A man has been arrested on suspicion of manufacturing drugs following a chemical spill in Chelmsford.
Police, fire and ambulance services were called to a drugs rehabilitation centre in New London Road at around 5.25pm yesterday evening (Wednesday) when staff began feeling unwell. Five people have been taken to Broomfield Hospital as a precaution.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “As a result of further enquiries, police went to an address in the Melbourne area of Chelmsford, where they found further chemicals which are believed to be connected to drugs production.
“A man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the manufacture of drugs, and he remains in custody this morning.”
A section of North Avenue has been closed as a precaution while specialist officers from fire, police and ambulance services remove the chemicals.
