Five teams (men in drag, mostly) took part in this year’s Finchingfield Three-Legged Race.

The winning pair, Grab a Granny, consisting of John Mason-Wood and Jonny Dryden, were pelted with water bombs and buckets of water as they crossed the pond for the second time.

Stopping to drink a beer at all three village pubs, (which is a rule) they still finished in six minutes and nine seconds.

Runners up in this eighth, annual event, run by the village cricket club were teams called Action Men and Spice Girls Mark2

The one female couple, who won the Best Dressed prize were Kate Lethaby and Kim Ashton dressed as princesses from the film Frozen.

There were two children’s races, for the under eights and the over eights, with five teams in one and six in the other. The children had to drink at the pubs too but mostly squash. The under eights were won by The Mitchell Brothers (five-year-old twins Jamie and Josh) and the older children who triumphed were Pirates of Finchingfield (Henry and Courtney).

Organiser Lee Rider said: “It was a lovely event, the sun shone all day, the crowds came out to support us and it looks like we’ve raised another large chunk towards more local facilities for the children of Finchingfield and Cornish Hall End.

“Huge thanks to all the runners, volunteers and local pubs that always help us, no matter what. It all adds up to making Finchingfield one of the best places to live.”

The money is still being counted. It will go to Finchingfield Cricket and Football Clubs and FINCHE which supports sports activities for young people in the village.
