FELSTED Preparatory students gained much success at the Regional National Science and Engineering Competition – The Big Bang – at Duxford.
Talented young scientists Will Newnham, from Felsted, and Bertie Webster, from Fyfield, both age 12, won the Junior Science and Engineering Prize and will head to the NEC in Birmingham to represent the region at The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair in March 2014.
Their project, entitled The Power of the Humble Orange, explored the potential of this fruit as an alternative energy source. They impressed judges with their high level of scientific knowledge and experimental procedure.
They also received the runner-up award in the 11-18 category for the Royal Society of Chemistry Prize.
Matthew Hudson-Lund, 12, from Wickham Bishops, was awarded runner-up in the Sustainability Prize (11–18 category).
It was a huge achievement as over 400 pupils were competing with the best projects from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
