Felsted Brownies made their promise this week as the first group was formed after years without one in the village.

The girls, aged between seven and 10, sung songs, recited the Brownie promise and collected a badge at the Memorial Hall on Monday evening.

The doors of the hall opened in September for the 18 youngsters, and they are looked after by Brown Owl Jo Mackin, Eagle Owl Suzie Jeremiah and Tawny Owl Kate Ellison.

Jo said: “This is the first Felsted group in eight or nine years and the response has been absolutely huge – we already have a huge waiting list.

“I think people still really respect the values of Brownies and a lot of the mums have fond memories from being part of a group when they were younger.

“People like to see their children be kind to each other, help at home and the fact it is still just for girls.”

The Brownies meet every Monday in the hall, on Braintree Road. To join or for more information, visit girlguiding.org.uk/home
