FIREFIGHTERS fought to two and a half hours to bring a massive barn fire in Hatfield Broad Oak under control on Friday.
Farm buildings at Forest Hall Farm, were reported as being 'well alight' by the time fire crews arrived on the scene at around noon.
Seven crews from Sawbridgeworth, Dunmow, Halsted, Old Harlow and Harlow worked to fight the flames using three jets and two pumps.
After nearly two hours, the buildings were still well alight and relief crews were sent to the scene to help their colleagues.
By 2.30pm the fires had been extinguished, but firefighters remained on site turning over and damping down. Two crews remained on site during the night to ensure the fire did not rekindle.
The barns were reported as being burnt to the ground and deemed too unsafe to enter.
