A RETURNING parish councillor has spoken of his desire to help dispel some of the misconceptions about the role of his council colleagues.Nigel Carder, who has been co-opted on to Sawston Parish Council, said he felt villagers did not know the amount of time and effort councillors put into their work.He was elected to the position vacated by Mike Cornell by a majority of 24 votes to nine against his rival for the role, Kieran Cooper, on Tuesday."I am absolutely pleased to be elected because the reason I am going back is because I feel that the councillors do a very good job and they get a lot of stick from the villagers."Mr Carder, 46, was a parish councillor on and off for 10 years, having joined when he was in his late 20s, but he had to leave because he had to work late at a stationery shop and could not maintain his council duties.Mr Cornell left so he could move closer to his family in Chelmsford.
