A NEW playground for children in Felsted is just a few weeks away, after work commenced at the beginning of the month.

The £90,000 project, including slides, roundabouts, zip wires, a picnic area. A jungle climber and an adventure trail should be completed by late March early April according to the Felsted Playing Field Group - set up to oversee the task.

Group member Catherine Gould said: "Many groups within the village have worked extremely hard at fundraising throughout 2009 to make the project a reality, including the primary school, FKS School, Felsted School, the Ladies Guild, the Women's Institute, the Holy Cross Church, the friendship club and the gardening club.

"The Felsted Toddler Group alone has raised a massive £6000 towards the project."

The rest of the cash has come from the parish council, the Playbuilder Fund, and the Hilton in the Community Foundation.

The new equipment will be located on the Felsted playing fields just off Braintree Road and Jollyboys Lane and will form the rest of a major project including a multi use games area. Work will take four weeks in total.
