A SCHOOL in south Uttlesford has been awarded the prestigious International School Award from the British Council.

Felsted Preparatory School has been recognised for its “international outlook” after submitting evidence of some of the activities that its pupils have been involved in.

It particularly received praise for working to instil a ‘global dimension’ into children’s learning.

Manager of the International School Award John Rolfe said: “Many congratulations to Felsted who have been successful in gaining the award.

“We are very grateful to them for their excellent commitment to the enriching, creative and innovative international dimensions of teaching and learning.

“This fantastic work is vital preparation for all our young people to better understand their place in the world and support the development of their skills in an increasingly global economy.”

It is easy to see why the school managed to gain the award.

Pupil’s have recently took part in activities such as a China and Russia day, a visit to Cologne’s Christmas market, a year three Greek day, a French trip to Normandy, participation in the model United Nations conference, an exchange with a school in Russia, an African week and a trip to Zurich for a conference on democracy..

International coordinator and head of modern languages Mrs E Hurriaga said: “We are extremely proud to be presented with the prestigious award.

“It is a great cause for celebration as it recognises all the enthusiasm and hard work that our pupils, teachers and parents put into learning about other cultures and into embracing the international dimension in everything we do.”

The International School Award is given by the British Council to celebrate, develop, recognise and accredit outstanding practice in international teaching and learning.

Fostering an international work in the curriculum is at the heart of the council’s work with schools, it aims to allow young people to gain the cultural understanding and skills they need to live and work as global citizens.
