POLICE are appealing for any witnesses to an overnight theft from a car in Lukins Drive, Great Dunmow, last Wednesday.

Between 11pm on October 7 and 8.30am on October 8, thieves gained entry to an unlocked black Nissan Qashqai and stole a satellite navigation system, a blue sports bag containing clothing and shoes and DVDs, worth a total of around 300.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed or who has information about this incident to contact officers at Dunmow police station on 0300 3334444, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A police spokesman said: "We advise motorists to always keep doors and the boot locked, and to close the windows of your vehicle. If you have tools inside, remove them before leaving your vehicle unattended.

"Leaving property and valuables on display can provide a temptation to a thief. Any type of property that is on display is vulnerable, such as satellite navigation systems, laptops, phones, bags, money, CDs and radios.

"If property is visible in an unattended vehicle a thief can quickly break the window and steal it.
