POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road collision in Great Bardfield this morning (October 24).

A man from the village heard a bang just after 5am and discovered a black Citroen Saxo had left Braintree Road and collided with trees.

The vehicle is believed to have been travelling in the direction of Great Bardfield.

Two men in the vehicle had to be cut out by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.

A 25-year-old man from Wethersfield, believed to be the driver of the vehicle was declared dead at the scene. His passenger, a 26-year-old man from Great Bardfield is currently in a life-threatening condition at Chelmsford's Broomfield Hospital with head injuries.
