Essex man arrested in connection with rape

A MAN from the Brentwood area has been arrested on suspicion of rape in connection with an incident in Chelmsford.

The 21-year-old male was arrested when he attended Brentwood police station on Sunday afternoon, May 20, in connection with a rape in Wood Street, Chelmsford, which happened on Saturday, May 19.

The assault is believed to have happened between 2am and 3am near to the entrance to the former St John’s Hospital site. The victim, a woman aged in her 20s from Chelmsford, was threatened by a man in a vehicle in New London Road, forced to get in the car and driven to the Wood Street location where she was assaulted.

The man is currently in custody.
