A free bereavement counselling service for any death, no matter how long ago, is to be launched by St Clare Hospice.

A service is already run by St Clare Hospice in Hastingwood, designed to reach out to the community to help explore feelings around death, dying and loss.

But now, the comfort is going online.

Sarah Thompson, the hospice’s chief executive, said: “Death is a subject we normally shy away from. But this year, as we navigate our way through a pandemic, this ‘hidden’ subject is at the forefront of our minds.

“We want to highlight the support that St Clare Hospice provides free of charge to local people who are experiencing bereavement.

“People are grieving in isolation. They may have been unable to attend the funeral of their loved one, or to meet up with their friends and family to support each other after someone’s death. “We will also soon be launching a range of virtual support to those who are grieving, whether from Covid-19 or not and no matter how long ago.”
