THIEVES drove away with a 20,000 Volkswagen Golf after stealing the car keys from the owner’s Felsted home.

The incident happened at about 2.15am on Monday (August 9) after the thieves broke into the property in Bannisters Green by forcing a secure uPVC door. A wallet containing cards and a small amount of cash was also stolen in the raid.

DCI Mark Wheeler of Essex Police said there are a few simple steps that car owners can take to make themselves safer.

“It’s good to ensure that you keep your keys somewhere safe and out of sight,” he said.

“In addition, do not leave cash, bags and wallets lying around. Please keep all accessible doors and window closed and locked.

“If you have uPVC doors, please ensure that you lock the door with the key - just pulling up the handle does not deadlock the door.

“If you have a garage, please try to lock your vehicle away safely inside it.”
