Essex hospital's new biodiversity garden with 'Buzz Hotel'

Ideas for a 'Buzz Hotel' were explored by students at Broomfield Primary School.

Adam Ledra's winning design was then built and unveiled at a special assembly.

It is being placed at the front entrance to the hospital as part of a new biodiversity garden which will reduce pollution, calm patients and attract nature, alongside more than 200 new plants and new lighting.

Thirty-seven children submitted an entry for the project, set up between the school and Bouygues, the facilities management company which looks after the Broomfield Hospital site.

Nikki Mortimer, performance administrator for Bouygues, said: “The garden is going to be amazing; it will benefit patients who sometimes sit out the front by reducing pollution and also bringing them closer to nature.”

Adam Ledra, seven, who penned the winning design, said: "I felt really proud seeing the Buzz Hotel. I liked seeing how my 2D design has been made into 3D."

During the project, students at Broomfield Primary School were also sent their own bug hotels to paint themselves.

Teacher Fran Foley said: “The children were really excited to take part in the project. They showed lots of creative ideas to help the environment."
