DUNMOW Rotary Club has backed the Help for Heroes campaign.

The club raised over 560 from the staged Military Band concert at Foakes Hall earlier in the year.

And club president David Green handed over a cheque to Help for Heroes Campaign organiser for Essex, Marianne West who, along with her husband Valentine, were guests of honour at the rotary club's weekly luncheon meeting.

A Rotary Club spokesman said: "Marianne gave a short talk on the Help for Heroes recent fund raising, which had raised 34 million reflecting the depth of feeling within the British nation for the well being of their wounded soldiers.

"She mentioned that the money raised was partly being used locally and nationally to set up seven army recovery houses based in garrison towns such as Colchester each for up to 20 soldiers."

The military band concert will be repeated in June 2010.
