PLAYTIME at a primary school will be a dry affair during the April shower season thanks to the installation of a new shelter for pupils.

An £11,000 canopy has been installed above the playground of Dunmow Primary School thanks in part to a donation from the town's Round Table Group.

Headteacher Sylvia Ruck said: "The extension will allow the children to go outside and play during wet weather, which is obviously a great thing for them.

"The idea for a large canopy came from a recommendation in an Ofsted report and it is something we have wanted here for over two years. We are delighted to have it now in place and would like to say thanks for the donations, not only from the Round Table but also from businesses in the area."

In total £3000 was raised independently towards the final cost for the large blue canopy, which overhangs part of the playground outside the pre-school section of the main building. The rest of the funding was met within the school's annual budget for 2009/10.
