Archant

There were some surprising answers from Formula One Champion, Lewis Hamilton MBE, when he was interviewed by a 10-year-old boy on Three Counties Radio.

Wilson Davies, from Dunmow, a pupil at St Mary’s School, first phoned into the radio station when he was nine.

He was invited on to the Breakfast Show on his tenth birthday in October and again on Monday to interview the racing star on the slot hosted by Justin Dealey.

The youngster did his research on the star and asked him about his best-loved things. He found the star liked a feather in his cap.

Wilson said: “I was surprised that his favourite hat is a fedora. I expected it to be a normal baseball cap but he said he like the shape of the fedora and it cheered you up being able to put a feather in it.

“I was also surprised that he likes an SNES (Super Nintento Entertainment System) to play games on, I thought he would want a newer console.”

Off air, Lewis Hamilton asked his young interviewer some questions too.

“He asked me about my girlfriends.”

Do 10-year-olds have girlfriends?

“Yes”.

Wilson added: “He also liked my jacket and asked me about that. I said I got it from the Disney Store.”

The jacket is an X-Wing pilot jacket from the film Star Wars. After it emerged that Lewis was going to meet Star Wars writer, George Lucas, Wilson asked Lewis if he could get him an invitation to the premiere of the new Star Wars film, Episode VII The Force Awakes, released on December 17.

The champion laughed and said he didn’t know whether George Lucas would be there but he would see what he could do.

Wilson told The Broadcast that he had always liked radio. He had listened to presenter Iain Lee on Absolute Radio and his LBC shows as well as on Three Counties.

Wilson said: “I started off liking Danny Baker. He tells very funny stories.”
