Musical students took part in a day of workshops, demonstrations and performances to improve their art.

The GCSE students from The Helena Romanes School, in Parsonage Downs, Great Dunmow, took a trip to the Birmingham Conservatoire at Birmingham City University.

Pani Charalambous, music teacher at HRS, said: “The day was an invaluable introduction for the students to further education as information was available on fees, accommodation, interviews and audition tips. The visit provided valuable information for students considering continuing their music education beyond school.”

Music specialisms available for students to see included strings, woodwind, brass, keyboard, percussion, classic guitar and vocals. Music genres represented were jazz, opera and baroque. The talks and workshops ranged from information about course content to hands-on experience of different instruments.

Compositions by conservatoire students were performed by their orchestra led by a professional conductor.
