Members held their AGM where they re-elected their officers and committee which was unchanged apart from a retirement leaving a space for another member to fill in the near future. It was thought necessary to increase the yearly subs, unchanged for several decades, and it will now stand at £7 per annum, with a fee for members attending winter meetings of £1, and £3 for visitors. This fee includes tea/coffee and biscuits as well as enjoying listening to Guest speakers, often with slides or plant material to accompany the talk, usually of a horticultural nature. However, for a change, after the business of the AGM the members were treated to an illustrated talk by member Dave Perry on the subject of 'Tails of the Unexpected'. Dave had brought along a selection of his pets, insect, amphibian and reptilian, illustrating evolution to some degree. The specimens were passed around in their boxes for members to have a closer look, and those brave enough were able to make friends with his boa constrictor snake. There were no members dozing off in the back row as a fascinating talk unfolded! The society meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month, at 8pm in the Talberd Room of the Foakes Hall. The subject for February's meeting will be on Hellebores. New members are welcome. Two coach trips will be organised during the spring/summer, the first one to RHS Wisley in Surrey.
