Dunmow fireworks night: £4000 raised at ‘the biggest ever’ event

OVER £4000 for charity was raised at Dunmow’s biggest ever firework display on Saturday night.
With perfect weather on offer, record-breaking crowds waltzed through the gates at the town’s recreation ground and were treated to a stunning 20-minute firework display.
Organisers from the Great Dunmow Round Table were thrilled that the night constituted their most successful effort ever.
Chairman Peter Noble said: “In all my years being involved in the Round Table, I don’t think I’ve ever been part of such a great community event.
“It is all about raising money for local causes and we can only say a massive thank you to the people of Great Dunmow for coming out in their thousands to watch the fireworks.
“I would also like to say a special thanks to all that helped put on such a wonderful spectacle – from fighter pilots to farmers all gave their time for free and for that I am truly grateful.
“All I can say is roll on next November for an even bigger and better event.”
Great feedback was given by the public, with one person even approaching organisers with a crisp £10 note even though he had watched the display in his own garden.
The crowds entered into the community spirit by not only attending but also buying hamburgers, mulled wine, tea and coffee.
And, in a hotly contested Guy competition, Max and Daisy Thake won with their guy named “Russell Brand” – they then got to count down from 10 to zero to start the fireworks as well as winning the £50 prize donated by the judge Jackie Williams.
To ensure all visitors had a great experience the volunteers were supported by ten US Air Force fighter pilots from the 492nd Fighter Squadron based at RAF Lakenheath who were on hand helping the evening to go with a bang.
Mr Noble added: “We would also like to thank Hire Station as without their support we simply could not put on a show – and in particular the regional manager Rob Miller.
“And finally a big thanks to the pupils of HRS for providing Hot Chocolate on the night. Well done”.
