A great day was had by all at the Dunmow Carnival at the weekend (Saturday, September 17).

Around 10,000 people turned up to watch the procession, listen to the live music, and see the various performances.

Although the exact amount will be totalled in coming weeks, the event is expected to have raised around £1,500 for three groups - Dunmow Cricket Club, Kids Inspire, and Dunmow Blind and Housebound Social Club.

Keith Wheatcroft, of the procession committee, said: “It was excellent. I understand that on Twitter there were lots of people saying how good it was, how it was better than last year, and we are very pleased with the outcome. The procession went really well.

“There were loads and loads of people, the music was terrific, and the whole day was excellent.”

Even though there were a few minor hiccups, with a bit of rain and toilets that didn’t arrive, the day went smoothly.

David Beedle, of the carnival committee, said: “Considering the conditions, it was extremely well attended.

“The committee were tested to the absolute limit, but at the end of the day, a good time was had by all.

“We really appreciate the support we have had from people in town.”
