A WOMAN from Great Bardfield was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being involved in an accident on Thursday night.

The 57-year-old woman was travelling on the A120 with her husband when the car she was in collided with a stationary lorry just before the Dunmow turn-off.

When the ambulance service was alerted to the incident at 11.20pm, a paramedic manager, an ambulance, a rapid response car and a BASICS emergency doctor were immediately sent to the scene.

An ambulance spokesman said: "The woman was in a state of reduced consciousness when we arrived and had suffered severe lacerations to her left shoulder and both hands, and she also had serious facial injuries."

Ambulance and fire crews worked together to free her from the wreckage as quickly and safely as possible and were able to remove her after 45 minutes.

After being assessed and treated at the scene, the woman was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.

The ambulance spokesman said: "By then her level of consciousness had improved, and her injuries were believed to be serious but not life threatening."

The woman's husband escaped with no apparent injuries but was taken to hospital by an ambulance to be checked over.
